How Far Are the Ouzoud Waterfalls from Marrakech?

The Ouzoud waterfalls are 159.6 km by road from Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main square of Marrakech, to the parking by the falls. On a day trip that means about three hours each way with a coffee stop, roughly four hours at the falls, and a day of 11 to 12 hours from pickup to drop-off. The road

The route runs north-east out of Marrakech across the plain and climbs into the hills of Azilal Province. Measured by road:

These are road distances, not times. The day trips put the time at about three hours each way, and that is what the itineraries add up to. The Moroccan National Tourist Office gives Ouzoud as an excursion of about 40 minutes from Azilal, the provincial town, which helps only if you are staying there.

How the hours add up

Every Ouzoud day we compared follows the same shape: pickup in Marrakech in the morning, a coffee stop on the way out, about four hours at the falls and the drive back.

Is six hours in a van worth it?

That is the main complaint in recent reviews. Of the 350 most recent reviews of Ando Travel Ltd’s day, dated 22 October to 8 November 2026, 38 give three stars or fewer, and at least six of those texts object to the hours on the road. One reviewer writing in German reports a 13-hour day instead of 11 (30 October); one writing in French found six hours in a small minibus too much (30 October); another, also in French, felt three hours each way was too long for the time spent in front of the falls (1 November).

The same 350 reviews praise the scenery in at least 40 texts. Reviewers who liked the day describe the road as long but broken up by the stops, with plenty of bends; one on 25 October 2026 suggested taking precautions if you get motion sickness.

The day is worth it if you want the falls themselves: a long walk down to the river, the boat at the foot and the climb back. If the drive is the problem, there is no closer version of Ouzoud.

Getting there without a tour

You can hire a car and drive the 159.6 km yourself; we did not find a published public-transport timetable or fare to print. A tour takes the driving off your hands, and its cheapest option is little more than the seat in the van.
